Primary Responsibility

Responsible for writing and updating Computer-Numerical Control (CNC) Programs to control contour path machining of metal parts or tooling. Observes operation of programs using NC plot software to prove out tool paths.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

• Creates and edit programs for CNC Lathe including; Swiss type Lathe.
• Responsible for programming, editing, modifying and maintaining files on all parts manufactured on CNC equipment.
• Prepares geometric layout using Cam Software to show location of references points and direction of cutting path.
• Calculates machine speed and feed ratios, and the size and position of cuts.
• Works with minimal supervision and manages own time effectively to maintaining control over all current projects/responsibilities. Follows up on all relevant issues.
• Assists with all aspects of prototyping and production needs.
• Resolves CNC program and associated manufacturing issues with all relevant department.
• Makes recommendations for process improvements that will yield shorter set-up times, improved cycle-times, improved quality, etc..
• Collaborates with CNC Machinists and Operators to create a proven program for production or production support.
• Analyzes and designs machine holding fixtures for parts.
• Sets-up CNC machines as needed to support production schedules.
• Performs Statistical Process Control (SPC) checks per specification and acts in accordance with output.
• Reads blueprint or job order for product specification such as dimensions, tolerance, number or parts to be formed and tooling instruction on type tooling required.
• Follow all 5S department procedures which include but are not limited to; keeping floors clean of oil and debris, returning tools to proper locations, organize part pans, and performs other housekeeping duties.
• Attends all required job related training (internal and external).

  Education And/or Experience
  
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent education and training.
  • Minimum of 5 continuous years of CNC (Lathe) programming experience using MasterCam or equivalent CAM software.
  • Advanced skill in reading and interpreting; manufacturers drawings, blueprints, schematics, technical notes and written instructions.
  • Writing programs that produce aerospace components is preferred but not required. Computer Skills
    
    SKILLS AND ABILITIES
    
    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have working knowledge of 3D CAD/CAM software, mainframe computer systems and advanced spreadsheet utilization skills along with proficiency in Word Processing, presentation and project management software (MS Office and MS Project).
    
    Language Skills
    
    Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. The ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
    
    Mathematical Skills
    
    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and linear algebra. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
    
    Reasoning Ability
    
    Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract concrete variables.
