Job Description:
Overview:Safety and Security Director is responsible for the
implementation and execution of the safety program requirements,
development of appropriate local safety initiatives for accident
and injury prevention and security awareness. Responsible for the
overall safety management function, including risk assessment,
training, incident investigations, safety and security awareness,
and claims handling for the property. Works closely with client to
accomplish client's Safety and Security goals and
objectives.Responsibilities:
- Effectively communicate Company programs, trainings and general
information critical to success
- Manages both qualitative and quantitative data in a timely
manner and prepares monthly safety and security reports and
presents the information to staff, management, and the client
- Act as Incident Commander in the event of an emergency; fill
role as client's Emergency Management Liaison as needed. Be
available to respond to job site in a crisis and work closely with
Administrators, Law Enforcement, Fire Department and other first
responding agencies.
- Ensures that staff is adequately trained and understands and
executes on safety and security standards
- Ensures compliance with all company, client, and Department of
Transportation regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct, review and document facility safety inspections on a
scheduled basis and ensure that deficiencies are corrected in a
timely manner to mitigate risk and minimize risk of loss
potential.
- Ensures that all accidents/incidents are ethically and properly
investigated and that all reporting and risk management tools are
up-to-date and correct at all times; and all related reports are
completed and submitted as required.
- Develops local accident and injury prevention plans &
programs.
- Develops local safety and security awareness programs and
initiatives. Ensures safety bulletin boards, safety postings, and
electronic FOCUS board are up to date with most current and other
pertinent safety information
- Schedules and presents training programs. Conducts monthly
employee/driver safety meetings.
- Ensures contract compliance with all applicable federal, state,
local, and company regulations; ensures that related record keeping
and reporting requirements are met and maintained; provides support
in implementing the approved recommendations
- Selects, hires, and trains qualified candidates for
employment.
- Coaches and motivates staff; provides guidance and direction on
problems and issues; delegates work assignments considering
employee skills and development needs as required.
- Oversees the successful completion of all safety and security
related audits at location
- Supervises the safety & training staff, including BTW Trainers
at the location (if applicable)
- Is the central point of information and data for safety &
training activity at the location, including maintaining data on
trainees, licenses, drug and alcohol program, VTT and other
training activity
- Maintains driver, and other safety sensitive employee
qualifications files.
- Serves as the location DER/DAPM in accordance with Company and
FTA requirements
- Maintains confidentiality of all information
- Other duties as required.Qualifications:Education, Licensing,
and Certifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent, such as GED, plus two years
of college or university studies preferred
- Ability to obtain a class B Commercial Driver's License with
Passenger endorsement a strong plus
- Experience in evaluating emergency crisis situations and
demonstrating leadership in interactions with employees, the
client, public officials, other government agencies, and the
public, especially during critical emergency incidents.
- Ability to build trust and positive working relationships with
diverse groups including educators, stakeholders, emergency
management personnel, first responders, legislative/policy staff
and community members.
- Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative,
and responsible
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work under
pressure
Education, Licensing, and Certifications Preferred:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Business, Public
Administration or related field preferred.
- Incident Command System (ICS), National Incident Management
System (NIMS), and State Emergency Management System (SEMS)
certifications preferred
Experience Required:
- 5 years or more experience in a security and/or safety
role
- 2 years or more experience in a supervisory role
Skills and Knowledge Required:
- Familiarity with OSHA, EPA standards, NIMS and ADA
requirements.
- Strong leadership skills with excellent interpersonal
communication and teamwork skills
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of Department of
Transportation, Federal Motor Carrier, Transit Security
Administration, and Federal Transportation Administration rules and
regulations.
- Injury / collision prevention practices & techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to interpret and explain regulations to others.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word
and Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent
presentation skills.
- Travel requirement outside of immediate area (as a percent)

Must submit to drug testing and a criminal background check
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work shifts or flexible work schedules as
needed.
- 75% of work is accomplished indoors and in air conditioned or
well-ventilated facilities
- Work is accomplished in an office or in a cubicle space
equipped with a telephone and computer.
- The employee is generally subjected to long periods spent
sitting, typing, or looking at a computer screen.
